Peri-Implantitis
Peri-Implantitis is an inflammatory condition affecting the soft and hard gum tissues around dental implants. Similar to a natural tooth, bacteria can build up on the base of the implant, below the gum line. Over time, the bacteria irritate the gum tissue, causing it to become inflamed, damaging the tissue and if not caught early, causing the bone structure below the implant to deteriorate.
Case by of Peri-implantits in its advanced stage treatment via Implant Explantation with periapical curettage and socket preservation.
The process of removing a dental implant is known as "implant removal" or "implant explantation." This procedure involves the removal of the implant post and any attached components, such as the abutment or restoration.
Implant removal may be necessary for various reasons, such as implant failure, infection, or patient discomfort.
Case Report : A 39 years old male patient from Drass region of Kargil district referred to us by a general dentist for consultation of bleeding gums, loosening of dental implant and discomfort while having food.
On history taking, patient had undergone dental implant placement followed by prosthetic rehab 3 years back by a local general dentist in Jammu. Gradually the bleeding from the implant site, followed by discomfort and loosening intensified over the period of past 1 year.
On oral examination soft as well as hard tissue defect along with ppd = 13mm, G-III mobility, BOP +, PIM +, Pus exudation +.
On the bases of history, clinical examination and investigation Stage III Peri-implantitis was diagnosed which was finally managed by Implant explanation technique.
Conclusion :- Peri-implantits is avoidable by practicing oral hygiene religiously by the patient following implant therapy, by regular follow up post rehab, and mainly by consulting a qualified professional dentist for the dental implant therapy.
