Ramazan and Dental Health ; An insight.
Like most of religious leaders around the globe Ayatullah Ali Hussaini Sistani and Ayatullah Ali Khamnaie, both allows almost all dental treatment including Tooth filling, Extraction, Incision & Drainage, Root Canal Treatment, etc.. while on fast during Ramazan with some precautionary measures.
Purpose of the presentation is :-
Most of Muslim patients visiting Dentist for dental issues during the month of Ramazan use to skip the fasting due to lack of information about rulings from the religious scholars. It is clearly stated by all the religious leaders of almost every school of thoughts "if proper precautions are taken one can continue the fasting along with the dental treatments". So no need to discontinue the practice of Fasting while having any dental issue.
Therefore, if someone requires dental treatment during Ramazan, they are allowed to receive it. However, it is important to make sure that any treatment received does not break the fast. For example, if a person receives local anesthesia for pain relief during dental treatment, this does not break the fast. However, receiving intravenous (IV) fluids or general anesthesia would break the fast. One should make sure nothing goes down the throat during the procedure.
It is also important to note that delaying necessary dental treatment until after Ramazan is not recommended. Neglecting dental health can lead to complications and may require more extensive treatment later on.
Conclusion:-
Therefore, it is advisable to seek dental treatment when it is needed, even during Ramazan, as long as it does not break the fast.
